We have over 10 years of experience at whitening teeth and at Appletree we have found it is one of the most effective and safe ways to make an improvement in the appearance of your smile. To the right are some of our Appletree Whitening cases. Following recent legislative changes in the concentration of bleaching agent that is permissible, we are recommending the home bleaching system which is highly effective and costs only £250 for upper and lower arches.
After checking your teeth are suitable and disease free, we will take impressions of your upper and lower teeth. From this our technician makes thin flexible trays which fit comfortably over your teeth. We will show you how to apply the whitening gel and we recommend you use it every/or alternate evenings for a number of weeks depending on how dark and stained your teeth are. Patients usually start to see an improvement after just 3 or 4 applications and it is perfectly safe to continue whitening until you are happy with the shade you have achieved. To maintain your whiter teeth you can use your bleaching trays occasionally during the year to top up your whitening as required.
Q & A
How white will my teeth get?
In clinical studies, Tooth Whitening has been able to achieve over 6+ shades whiter on average. Your results of course will vary as your starting point may be different as everyone's teeth respond a little differently, but in virtually all cases, the results are dramatic. Ultimately, the goal will be to achieve your optimum, natural whiteness. During the consultation, the dentist will go over what you personally can expect for your individual situation. Severe discoloration can be treated and yield good results in many instances. However, the more difficult cases can sometimes require more prolonged treatment.
How long does it last?
The long-term results depend primarily on the individual. Certain habits, such as the use of tobacco products, drinking a lot of coffee, tea, dark soft drinks, and infrequent visits to the dentist for regular cleanings, etc., can work against the results. Regular professional care and use of the Home Whitening System will help maintain the whitening up to 2 years.
Is it safe?
Yes. The Tooth Whitening procedure will not soften enamel or existing fillings. The primary ingredient in the whitening gel has been safely used in teeth whitening for over 100 years and is recognized as an effective whitening ingredient by the dental community.
Will it hurt?
Some of our clients experience sensitivity after the Teeth Whitening treatment. It can be useful to use desensitising toothpaste for a few weeks before the procedure and the sensitivity usually passes quickly.
Is this procedure for everyone?
Virtually everyone wanting to lighten his or her teeth can benefit from using Tooth whitening - including people with severe food, coffee, tobacco or tetracycline stains. The dental examination dentist will determine if you are a good candidate for whitening at the time of your free consultation.
How old do you have to be?
Currently, the minimum age is 18 years old.
Will the procedure whiten my existing crowns/veneers/bonds, etc.?
The Teeth Whitening treatment has been successful at removing stains from caps, veneers or bonded teeth. However, a whitening treatment in general cannot change the colour of the crowns, veneers or bonds.
