Nervous of the dentist? You’re in safe, gentle hands.
If you’ve been avoiding the dentist — for months, years, or longer than you’d like to admit — you’re not alone, and you’re not going to get a lecture from us. Around one in four adults feels genuine anxiety about dental appointments. At Appletree we’ve built a reputation, over 20 years, for treating those patients with the time, calm and honesty they deserve.

How we do things differently
- A proper conversation first. Your first visit doesn’t have to involve treatment. We can sit down, talk through what’s worried you in the past, and look at where things are now — at your pace.
- Honest about what’s needed. We don’t oversell treatment. If something can wait, we’ll say so. If something can be done in stages rather than all at once, we’ll plan it that way.
- Sedation when it helps. For patients who’d find a procedure significantly easier with sedation, it’s available (from £185).
- Late evening appointments. Dr Joanne Redpath offers late evening slots — useful if quieter times feel less intimidating.
- No raised voices, no rushing. Appointments at Appletree are run at a sensible pace by a team who genuinely like their patients.
A practice that gets it
Several members of our team are particularly experienced with nervous patients — including our receptionist Lisa-Marie, who many anxious patients credit with the calm welcome that made the difference on visit one. We’ve been doing this for 20 years; we’ve seen every level of “haven’t been in ages” — and we’d rather meet you now than not at all.
Frequently asked
What if I’m so nervous I can’t even pick up the phone?
Email us at info@appletreedental.co.uk or fill in the form on our Contact page — we’ll phone you back when it suits.
Will you tell me off for putting it off?
No. Our job is to look forward, not back. We’ve worked with patients who hadn’t been to a dentist in 15 years; the response is care, not commentary.
Can someone come with me?
Of course. You’re welcome to bring a partner, family member or friend to the appointment.
Is sedation safe?
Yes, in the hands of properly trained clinicians using appropriate dosing and monitoring. We’ll go through everything with you at the consultation and you’ll need someone to take you home afterwards.
Call us on 028 3025 2228 — or email info@appletreedental.co.uk if that feels easier.
