Root canal treatment (endodontics) saves teeth that have become painful, infected or damaged at the nerve. Done well, it relieves pain, eliminates infection and lets you keep your own tooth — sometimes for the rest of your life. Done poorly, it has a reputation it doesn’t deserve.

At Appletree, root canal work is handled in-house by Dr Brian Vaughan, who holds a Master’s in Endodontics with distinction from King’s College London and currently serves as a clinical supervisor on the same Master’s programme. Brian works solely on referral — from our own clinicians and from dentists across the region — for complex and routine endodontic cases.

  • Consultation — £75. Brian assesses the tooth, takes the imaging he needs (including CBCT where indicated), and confirms whether root canal treatment is the right answer.
  • Treatment: Incisor (including core) £500 · Premolar (including core) £575 · Molar (including core) £650 · Re-treatment cases +£150 · Core (additional) £100 · Removal of fractured file or post £150 · MTA where indicated £90
  • Review — no charge. We see every treated case back for a follow-up at no additional fee.

Frequently asked

Does root canal treatment hurt?

The treatment itself shouldn’t — we use local anaesthetic, and the goal is to relieve the pain you came in with. Mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal.

How many visits does it take?

Usually one or two appointments, depending on the tooth and the complexity. Brian will tell you at the consultation.

Will I need a crown afterwards?

Often yes — particularly on back teeth, where a crown protects the treated tooth from fracture. See Crowns & Bridges.

What if the treatment doesn’t work?

Modern endodontics has very high success rates. If a tooth doesn’t heal as expected, re-treatment is sometimes possible — and in some cases, implant replacement is the better long-term answer. Brian will be honest about your odds before treatment begins.
